Nutritional Medicine
As a great ancient Greek Healer once said ‘let your medicine be your food and your food be your medicine.’ Food is the greatest influence on our health. We eat every day and from our food we get body building nutrients like carbohydrates, fats, proteins and also micronutrients like vitamins and minerals.
If our food is good quality, unprocessed and nutrient rich our body is able to build and repair itself automatically, keeping us strong, robust, energetic and in excellent health. On the other hand if our food is poor quality, processed, energy rich but nutrient poor our body is unable to build and repair itself properly and we’ll feel tired, lethargic and unwell.
There’s a saying I have about the population in general at the moment, “we are over fed but undernourished.” Just look around, it’s quite obvious people are getting enough to eat, we’ve got an obesity epidemic. We’re sicker than ever before, we’ve got skyrocketing diabetes and cancer rates and heart disease hasn’t declined either. What we‘re lacking is nutrients.
How has happened considering we have more food and resources available than ever before?
It’s because modern food is grown in depleted soils. And then it’s refined and processed which strips away the little goodness contained in the food, those precious vitamins and minerals. Processed packaged food like breakfast cereals, and that’s all breakfast cereals not just the sugary ones, bread, white rice, rice crackers, corn cakes, pasta, muesli bars and so on don’t provide your body with the essential raw materials it needs to make energy or clear toxins from your body so it becomes polluted and run down. The cells start to decay and disease starts!
But the good news is you can turn this destructive process around using nutritional medicine. Nutritional medicine is the science of using wholesome foods, vitamins, minerals, good fats and amino acids to repair your body.
You may have started doing this already by taking a multivitamin, fish oil or glucosamine. If you have, congratulations for showing initiative and taking some action. But how do you decide what you need to take because there’s a million different supplements out there and it can get expensive?
This is where I differ from other naturopaths and GPs. Please let me explain…
I test each patient thoroughly. I want to get to underlying cause of your problem because I don’t want to guess with your health. I’ll take from you a thorough medical history and run appropriate tests. These tests aren’t like your normal blood tests your GP runs. They’re non-invasive and uncover what we call ‘functional’ problems. They’re problems that don’t show up on normal pathology tests. You know like when you feel there’s something wrong with you but your blood test come back ‘normal’ so your GP says ‘you’re fine’ and insinuates that it must be in your head.
But I agree with you. You’re the best judge of whether there’s something wrong with you. And the problem pathology tests is that they don’t pick up a problem until a disease starts and by then it can be too late. However with functional tests we’re able to identify the problem much earlier and determine what nutrients you’re lacking so we can launch a targeted, individualized nutritional plan of attack to clear up your health problem faster, saving you time and money.
You’ll be amazed by the healing power of nutritional medicine. By simply introducing wholesome fresh food, water and the right vitamins, minerals and good fats into your diet miraculous things start to happen. Aches and pains fade, digestive problems disappear, energy levels soar, eyes clear, skin glows, body fat melts away and great health becomes normal.
